A Short Biography of Sarah McLachlan
Sarah McLachlan was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia,
Canada in 1968. She studied classical piano and guitar and took
voice lessons. She fronted a New Wave band in 1985 and was
discovered by the president of Nettwerk records, a branch of
Arista, and signed when she was only 19 years old.
Sarah has released four albums since then. Her debut, Touch, released in 1988 went gold in
Canada with hits "Vox", and Steaming.
Solace was released in 1991 and
brought her into the mainstream with "Drawn To The
Rhythm" and "Into The Fire". 1993's Fumbling Towards Ecstacy was her
breakthrough in the United States with the tracks "Hold
On", and my favorites, "Possesion" and Good Enough. Her album,
"Surfacing" was released in 1997, was her biggest hit yet in the US with "Building A Mystery," "Sweet Surrender," and "Adia".
Sarah was also the mastermind behind the Chick-Music festival, Lilith Fair, an
all-women tour which included the Indigo Girls, Jewel, Sheryl Crow,
Shawn Colvin, Meredith Brooks, Paula Cole, Tracy Chapman and many
others.
